Steyn on Australian MP Danna Vale's abortion view

During the Australian Parliament's debate over RU486, the "morning after pill," Liberal PM Danna Vale contended that "Australians are aborting themselves out of existence." Of course the comment elicited a chorus of outrage among the better set of Aussies. Mark Steyn pays tribute to her willingness to call it like she sees it and offer his view that North America and Australia will soon be home to many European expatriates who will tell us of the folly of cultural suicide.

RU486 is the real way to provide personal private choice for women. If you don't want a kid, you don't want a kid. Why would anyone oppose ill-prepared parents from termintating pregnancies? There are several kids in the world that would be better off never born.

ru486 aside, I think Vale's comments are on the mark. If a culture becomes too reliant on abortion as birth control and it faces an enemy from a culture that completely rejects abortion, it will lose the clash demographically.

Brent, you may be right that several kids in the world would have been better off not born. On the other hand, how much greatness has been denied by successful abortions? I prefer looking at potential greatness.
